The best thing to happen to Civic Center Plaza in this century is a dancing lotus flower that sits on a black pedestal and rises 24 feet.

It rustles in the air, inflated and plump and spun from red fabric, on the plaza’s east side between the Main Library and the Asian Art Museum. The latter installed the work by Choi Jeong Hwa as part of the exhibition “Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past,” which runs through Sept. 2.
